For the style/ genre of my short film, I’d like to potentially do two contrasting genres if I decide to go with the parallel stories part of the brief as it makes it easier to distinguish between the two narratives.
I started by listing all of the genres which I could think of before I started to pair them up depending on how well they contrast each other for the most part. The best ideas I came up with were realism and fantasy which not only directly contrast each other but provide lots of ideas for the narratives I could choose. I then thought of horror and comedy as they’re both genres which i enjoy, however I feel as though this option would be harder to write. I then thought about thriller and romance because thrillers are a lot of fun to watch. However, the issue with this one is that you would have to have quite a high budget to produce an action film. I feel as though if I’m to go with the parallel stories idea, then I’m most likely to go with the realism and fantasy genres as they give worthwhile and individual/ unique narrative ideas.
